BAD
KREUZNACH, Germany -- The
city of Bad Kreuznach hosts a tour by veterans, a
closure ceremony, German-American activities and a
monument dedication May 25-27 as part of farewell
activities for the 1st Armored Division. The
division headquarters is relocating to Wiesbaden in
preparation for the eventual return of U.S. military
installations in Bad Kreuznach to the German
government by the end of the year.
Events
include a monument dedication at the Kurhaus May 25
at 3 p.m., a closure ceremony (and parade back to
Rose Barracks) at Moebus Stadium May 25 at 4:30
p.m., a children’s festival at the elementary
school at Römerkastell with rides and more May 27
at 11 a.m., a German-American half marathon at 2
p.m. May 27 (starts at Moebus Stadium
call civ 0671-792 266 to register), a
German-American basketball game at the Realschule
Heidenmauer May 27 at 4 p.m. and a variety show at
the Jakob-Keifer-Hall with music and dance (free
admission tickets available at the Tourist
Information Office on Europaplatz) May 27 at 5 p.m.
A
special exhibit, "50 Years of the American
Forces in Bad Kreuznach," continues at the
Sparkasse on the Kornmarkt through June 22. The
exhibit is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (open
until 5:30 p.m. Thursdays).
The
1st Armored Division Association will host a car
wash May 19 from 10 a.m. to noon on Rose Barracks
(by the theater) to raise funds for the monument to
be dedicated in Bad Kreuznach May 25. Cost will be
$5 per car.
