Results of
helicopter accident investigation released
HEIDELBERG, Germany -- The 15-6 investigation into
the crash of a U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on Feb.
3, 2010, in the vicinity of Mannheim, Germany could not
determine the cause of the accident. There was insufficient
evidence to indicate that mechanical malfunction,
environmental factors, pilot error or a combination of these
factors contributed to the accident.
The accident cost the lives of three U.S. Army Soldiers
assigned to G Company, 52nd Aviation Regiment, 1st
Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment.
The flight was a routine pilot proficiency training flight
from Stuttgart Army Airfield to Coleman Army Airfield.
During the approach to Coleman Army Airfield, the aircraft
began a rapid, unrecovered descent and made contact with the
trees which resulted in the aircraft crashing.
