Sex Signals teaches sexual assault
prevention with unusual methods

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- They were clapping and
laughing, yet Soldiers were learning about sexual assault
prevention during the Sex Signals show at the Patrick Henry
Village Theater here July 29.
Sex Signals is a 90-minute, two-person improvisational
comedy and educational show which uses audience interaction
and entertainment to teach sexual assault prevention.
“Sex Signals enlightens people in a fun and interactive
way," said Master Sgt. Mark Jordan, U.S. Army Europe equal
opportunity senior enlisted advisor. "Sex Signals is a great
training resource
and the best way to teach a serious subject such as sexual
assault.”
Soldiers who attended the show said Sex Signals is more
dynamic training than typical Army sexual assault training
prevention.
“The show is more effective than powerpoint briefings," said
Capt. Harvie S. Berry, USAREUR G3 plans manager. "You want
to learn and be entertained."
"I also think the powerpoint (presentation) is very
important, but isn't as entertaining," said Capt. Zandra
Castillo, USAREUR G3 mobilization and reserve affairs
manager. "Entertainment is necessary to capture your
audience. When you capture the audience, you’re able to see
that an understanding is actually being filtered to the
brain."
Castillo said Sex Signals is a practical form of teaching
sexual assault prevention. "Sex Signals taught the type of
questions leaders should ask their Soldiers about sexual
assault issues. Soldiers might find themselves familiar with
some of the situations or scenarios that are played out on
stage,” Castillo said.
Sex Signals is scheduled to appear at select communities in
Germany through August 6. Sex Signals scheduled appearances
